Upon completion of all the requirements, Construction-Carpentry students earn an Associate of Applied Science or Certificate of Applied Science degree. Additionally, students will earn a national certification through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) after eachs of the four levels (see below). The student is then entered into a National Registry as having proven competence at the designated level.

Students in the Construction Technology-Carpentry program are required to buy their own tools to use in the laboratory setting. Tools Lists are available online or through the New Student Services office. City College is not a main vendor for these tools. However, we do invite vendors to our campus at the beginning of each fall and spring semester - to display and sell their tools. We also have vendor lists of businesses that have previously worked with our students. Please note that you can buy any brand of tools.

Upon completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree, students will be able to:

• Read plans and elevations
• Perform site layout tasks
• Layout and build a structure from plans
• Work with concrete forms and reinforcing materials
• Perform simple concrete flatwork tasks
• Install doors and windows
• Install and finish drywall
• Install cabinetry
